Agtech Action | Week of 09.07.19 - 09.13.19
Happy Friday!
Welcome to Agtech Action.Â
I spent this past week in Kansas, first at the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock, which the Yield Lab Institute is proud to be joining this year, then at our opening programming for the Manure Challenge, which was super exciting. There are some fantastic folks working in the waste treatment space, and some seriously commercializable technologies. Who knew that 💩was so inspiring. Check out the companies here.
Opportunities:
Film SILO depicts deadly risk that faces farmers who store grain
The world's banana supply chain is at risk < AH! (Just got back from Kauai, ate enough apple bananas to sink a ship. They’re yummy and conveniently backpack-sized (in related news, my backpack is full of squashed banana juice.)
Solutions:
Let's just chill about processed foods < seriously, though. For any purists who need to feel good about processing, just watch a video of a loaf of bread being made.Â
How do we get rid of carbon emissions? Pay farmers to bury them.
Gene-editing has the potential to create better future farm animals
